Assessing the year for meaning, future goals, peak experiences, personal innovation, and your calling

The new year is the perfect time to innovate yourself. Here is what I recommend and what I’m doing. First, you should assess the previous year and identify your personal opportunities for innovation and personal development for the next year. I spent some great time on December 31^st reflecting on 2006 and identifying the highlights from the year. It was pretty cool. What I found fascinating was how we identify highlights for your life, what is the stuff that matters and excites us? For me the highlights were very much around places I’d traveled in 2006 (Tokyo, Germany, San Francisco, Boston, and Virginia were my list toppers) and also speaking events I did or retreats I facilitated. This tells me I like travel and speaking/facilitating and should continue to do these things more in 2007 since they excite me. The next activity I did after assessing the year that just passed was setting some goals for innovating myself in 2007.
